In August 2026, I had the honor of presenting Music in Many Voices, a saxophone lecture recital inspired by three summers of teaching in Zhangjiagang and my own experience over more than ten years as a musician. Through a program spanning Western classical, contemporary, and Chinese repertoire, I paired live performances with stories about the works' history, my own insights on music, and demonstrations of the different ways music can create dialogue between people, preserve and reinterpret history, and change how we understand ourselves and others.

For three summers, I've taught saxophone, music fundamentals, and music history to students at Nanfeng Elementary School in Yonglian Village, Zhangjiagang. Through interacting with the students, I've witnessed the power of music to bring joy, inspire self-expression, and connect people across different backgrounds. I became interested in how our different understandings of music didn't hinder connection, but instead enriched the ways we listened to and understood each other.

My own experiences with solo performances, jazz, ensemble playing, musical theater, and teaching have also shown me that music takes on many forms beyond performance itself. I believe the meaning of music is infinite. This journey through music became the basis for Music in Many Voices, an attempt for me to explore music not simply as repertoire, but as a way of listening, telling stories, understanding history, transcending boundaries, reconciling with tradition, connecting with others, and much more.

Presented on August 15, 2026, at 声学工艺 (Acoustic Tech) Studio in Shanghai, the recital brought together works by Vivaldi, Creston, Tcherepnin, Demersseman, and others, alongside Jasmine Flower (茉莉花) and Going Home (回家).

The recital was presented as a charity fundraiser in collaboration with the Education Development Foundation of Shanghai Conservatory of Music (EDFSCM).​
