JOURNALISM
Three years writing, editing, and helping lead The Deerfield Scroll, Deerfield Academy’s official student newspaper.

Co-Managing Editor
The Deerfield Scroll, Volume CI
2026-2027
At the end of my junior year, I had the privilege of being selected as one of two Co-Managing Editors through a peer-reviewed, faculty-approved application and interview process. Working just below the Editor-in-Chief, our team published the final issue of the 2025-2026 school year (and the first issue of Volume CI) in May.
Spending hours each week in the Scroll room, tucked into the basement the Kendall, has shown me what running a newspaper really means—from brainstorming articles and liaising with admins to laying out all 18 pages and refining the smallest details in InDesign. To me, it is about telling truthful stories, sharing unheard voices, and building communities. As part of this mission, I helped overhaul our previously neglected website, reorganizing and updating it into a much stronger digital home for the paper as the Scroll entered its second century.
Seeing each issue grow from ideas on a spreadsheet into boxes of physical copies and a lasting digital record of Deerfield life has been surreal. I'm excited to keep building on this work in the year ahead, ensuring that each article stays rigorous, thoughtful, and true to its journalistic purpose while still engaging with conversations that matter across campus.

Associate Editor
The Deerfield Scroll, Volume C
2025-2026
After applying and being appointed one of roughly 15 Associate Editors at the start of my junior year, I became more deeply invested in the Scroll and took on greater responsibilities. I continued pursuing stories I cared about, following up on my earlier article about artificial intelligence and covering important Deerfield events that often went unnoticed.
I also began supporting other writers through editing and feedback, a process that taught me how to build stronger articles, strengthen their perspectives and ideas, and collaborate effectively with other staff.

Staff Writer
The Deerfield Scroll, Volume XCIX
2024-2025
Joining the Scroll as a Staff Writer in my sophomore year, I did not expect this choice to have such a profound impact on my high school life. I used each article as an opportunity to investigate topics I was interested in, whether that be affirmative action or artificial intelligence's impact on Deerfield, and share my findings with the community.
Beyond writing, my responsibilities included performing interviews, synthesizing viewpoints into unbiased reporting, working with editors and peers, and turning complex issues into relevant and appealing articles for the student body.
